Kumasi Central Market

Day 1

Arrival and welcome orientations, check-in at hotel Accra.

 

Day 2 Accra city tour
After briefing, we will make a round-trip through the old and the new parts of Accra, passing many interesting places, like The Independence Square (Accra’s official ceremonial grounds) Flag Staff House, Parliament House, the Sports Stadium, Accra museum. A visit to the colourful Makola Market, Accra’s biggest traditional open air market. It is a delight to walk between the stalls with multicoloured materials, medicated herbs and tropical fruits, loudly recommended by the market women. They are called mammies, for their impressive appearance. A tour to the Arts Centre for National Culture and the Accra main craft bazaar where a wide range of souvenirs, like woodcrafts, kente, textiles, jewellery etc. can be bought. A visit to the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, where the first president of Ghana and his Egyptian wife Fatia Nkrumah have been laid to rest. After lunch, we will visit Dr. W.E.B. Du-Bois centre for a brief Pan-African history and inspect the tomb of the great American who spent the last three years of his life in Ghana helping Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to rebuild the nation.┬á In the afternoon, we head for Aburi to visit over a hundred-year-old botanical garden rich with plants and flowers of medicinal values.┬á┬á As we walk through the serenity of the gardens, you really have the feel of nature. Back to hotel.

 

Day 3: Central region

We depart Accra through ÔÇ£cityÔÇØ villages to the central region, there will be a stop over at Abanzi village for an excursion, to Fort Amsterdam and proceeds to have fishing experience with the local fishermen at the beach and head on to Cape Coast. A conducted tour of the Cape Coast Castle and a visit to Cape Coast town to have interactions with the indigenous people going about the

daily activities. Spend the rest of the day at the beach resort. Overnight in a Hotel.

Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle,
Early morning excursion to the Kakum National Park. Together with the guide we walk the 2 kilometres long Kuntan Trail, straight through the tropical forest with medicinal plants and herbs.┬á A very adventurous and exciting walk on the famous canopy walkway that gives you a birdÔÇÖs eye view of the forest is recommended for those that are not afraid of height.┬á Lunch break at a restaurant built on crocodile pond (optional).

In the afternoon, we will have a conducted tour through the Elmina Castle.

This castle is the earliest known European magnificent building on the coast of sub- Saharan Africa, built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used as the main auction market and garrison for the slave trade. Of special interest are the slave dungeons, the auction market and the Portuguese Church. A visit to the Elmina fish market and the stone houses ends today’s program. Back to Accra overnight in Hotel

 

Day 5: Kumasi

After breakfast, we depart through midlands to Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti Region. The Ashantis forms the biggest tribal group of the entire population in Ghana. For centuries, they were the rulers in the region because of their well-organized society. In the afternoon, we will visit the “Manhyia Palace” the seat of the Ashanti King. In the “Manhyia Palace” court cases still takes place according to the centuryÔÇÖs old customs, where the king has the last word. We will be taken through the palace museum for antiquities. Day 6

Surrounding craft villages of Kumasi and Cultural Afternoon.  Ahwiaa for woodcarving and Ntonso for tie and dye clothing, we continue to Bonwere kente weaving village, where we will be welcomed by the Kente Chief with traditional music and dance for a Cultural afternoon with a demonstration of the Kente weaving. If you like, you can take part in traditional cooking and also visit a peasant farm to see how palm wine is tapped.
Back to Kumasi for overnight in hotel.

 

Day 7: Kumasi City tour
To start with, we make a city tour through Kumasi and after that a visit to the Kejetia central market, the largest open market in West Africa, Komfo Anokye sword site, the cultural centre for rich culture display, War Museum with many old weapons. In the afternoon, you are free to explore Kumasi on your own. A place of recomendation is the beautiful Lake Bosumtwi.

Day 8
Today you will be brought back to the coastal area where the river Volta meets the sea at Ada Foah. The trip goes via Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Somanya, Afienya, and Dawenya to Ada Foah, a nice trip through a variety of landscapes. Manet Paradise Beach Resort is located on the riverbanks of the Volta. Here you have several possibilities to spend the afternoon, from relaxing at the poolside to go on the river with one of the Jet Ski’s etc. Hotel for the night: Manet Paradise Beach Resort at Ada Foah.

 

Day 9

This morning we depart through the beautiful savannah landscape, via the industrial city (Tema) arriving at Accra before midday. You have the rest of the day relaxing either in your hotel or at the beach. Its a free day and open day.

 

Day 10

This dayÔÇÖs activities would be based on your flight details. Our protocol officers would need the departure time for the airport check-in formalities. And also, our package planning officers would need that to make the day more relaxing.

As soon as we get that, Day 9 and 10 will be reconfirmed.
